jsimpson-h.gsfc.nasa.gov (169.154.161.43) connects to the GigaRouter via
its Hippi interface (the reason for the -h sufix).
The symptom of the hang of the HIPPI interface on the GigaRouter was that
you couldn't ping its hippi interface (169.154.161.1) even though you
could ping its atm interface (rtr-900-giga-a.gsfc.nasa.gov 169.154.32.3).
Note the traceroute to jsimpson-h would stop at the GigaRouter's atm address.
Anne Hammond indicated that she did add a check to see if jsimpson was
down (by pinging its FDDI interface 128.183.253.43, to make sure that
the reaons she could not get to jsimpson was not that it was not up.
We'll try to keep an eye on the connection, but if you should happen to
notice it is down, please let us know:
