Thanks to Mark and David. The users are in Chicago
at AAS and other meeting, so I don't have feedback
from them yet.
The connection was working in late February, early March.
See lcd-www.colorado.edu/nren/email/0299/0000.html for
a verification of this. I was gone from March 19, and sometime
after that the connection was broken.
However, in February 1999, the data rates were:
Mbps (5 transfers, 283 MB files)
Minimum: 17.1
Average: 20.2
Maximum: 26.0
In June 1998, the rates were:
Mbps (5 transfers, ~225 MB files)

In his followup message to that URL (available online), Bill
Fink says that the February 23 traceroute contained in the above URL
is the correct path. I'm not sure we have a historical traceroute
from 6/98, or that this would even be valid--given all the
configuration changes since that time.
Nevertheless, in the discussion of correcting the current routing,
it would be useful to see if it could be optimized to at least the
June 1998 rates--or to identify the bottlenecks.
Thanks for all your assistance on this. At least we have
a working route to jsimpson-h.gsfc.nasa.gov now.
