We now have MBGP operational within NREN. We are using PIM-DM internally,
carry MBGP routes internally, and exchange MBGP routes on a dedicated FDDI
located at the ARC/FIX. We sometimes refer to this FDDI as the "MIX"
(Multicast-friendly Internet eXchange). We are running the following IOS
image on most routers; it is stable for unicast BGP and multicast MBGP as
far as I/we know. The version is: ISP Version 11.1(18.2)CE.0531
We now do not carry DVMRP routes within NREN. So far, MBGP is working
well for multicast route exchange and we plan to replace internal DVMRP
routes with MBGP routes were feasible within NASA, with a single exchange
point with the DVMRP routing region (AKA "The Mbone") at the FIX/MAE. We
will be able to peer using MBGP at the FIX and other ESnet/NREN exchange
points. Regardless of the requirements for this project, ESnet can join
the MIX by adding an additional FDDI to the existing FIX router, or, we
can add other arrangements if needed. We look forward to working with
ANL and ESnet on this project.
