NASA hosts the Astronomy Picture of the Day site (NASA APOD) which regularly features interesting astronomical images and competent writen descriptions by experts in many fields. Many of the images in the observing reports will come from their extensive archives, and they are a good initial resource for exploring astrophysical phenomena.
